    Sigma Kappa, also known as SK or Sig Kap is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). SK fosters lifelong connection in sisterhood while being true to our founding as an intellectual and social women’s sorority. Through mutual support and respect, we inspire all members to lead a life of purpose. from sigmakappa.org Sigma Kappa values personal growth, friendship, service and loyalty. These four values make up what it truly means to be a Sigma Kappa! Sigma Kappa History At a time when women were first starting to even be allowed to enroll in college with men, SK's founders were some of the first female students at Colby College in 1873. Being the only females on campus, they created a close bond as they had to endure the hardships that came with a maled-dominated school and society. Throughout constant insults and exclusion, the women were courageous enough to want to start their own literary and social society. The school required them to present their governing board with a peition, bylaws and consitution for their organization. The founders spent the year working to set the groundwork for Sigma Kappa Sorority. On November 9th, 1874, the five women received a letter stating that their request for their organization had been approved and Sigma Kappa continues to thrive today! Sigma Kappa celebrates it's Founder's Day on November 9th! What is Sigma Kappa's Philanthropy? Sigma Kappa's national philanthropy is the Alzheimer's Association. In 2014, the Sigma Kappa Foundation pledged a $1 million commitment to the Women's Alzheimer's Research Initiative. SK's have philanthropy events on their campuses to raise money for Alzheimer's research, early detection and support, while also informing their peers about the disease. In addition to the Alzheimer's Association, Sigma Kappa has multiple philanthropies that it supports. Some of the national philanthropies SK supports includes: Sigma Kappa Foundation - works towards creating and funding leadership scholarship and philanthropic efforts that mirror the values and spirit of Sigma Kappa. This foundation plays a crucial role in the continuation of the organization, allowing it to continue on for more women to be part of and benefit from! Gerontology - provides service and companionship to senior citizens in their local communities Inherit the Earth - a national service initiative that gives collegians, alumnae and others the opportunity to work together to improve the environment. Maine Seacoast Mission - this philanthropy was chosen as Sigma Kappa's first national philanthropy at the 1918 convention, in honor of Sigma Kappa being founded in Maine. Through annual contributions, the Sigma Kappa Foundation provides funding to the mission for their most urgent needs. Sigma Kappa Chapters Sigma Kappa has about 119 collegiate chapters in 36 states. When the founders felt that they needed to create an organization to break the gender alienation on their campus, Gamma Phi Beta was born! GPhi is the first organization to be coined with the term sorority. Gamma Phi Beta was founded to be a welcoming and supportive environment for collegiate women, and it continues to be just that today! Gamma Phi Beta celebrates it's Founder's Day on November 11th!! What is Gamma Phi Beta's Philanthropy? Gamma Phi's national philanthropic partner is Girls on the Run which is pivotal in helping to Build Strong Girls. The group offers physical fitness, tutoring, mentoring, and support that empowers and teaches girls important life skills. It provides girls with many opportunities to be involved in their community. Girls on the Run hosts 5K races at elementary and middle schools for girls to participate in. Chapters will help by volunteering and supporting these races through their philanthropic initiatives. Chapters across the nation will also host Moonball philanthropy events to raise awareness and donations for Girls on the Run. This event is usually a kickball, basketball, or volleyball event chapters will host to promote Building Strong Girls.     Delta Zeta, also known as DZ is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). DZ was founded to create a group of women that create lasting friendships, encourage each other in the pursuit of knowledge, promote values-based living and be socially responsible. Delta Zeta History Delta Zeta was founded in 1902 at the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio. 1902 was the first year women were allowed to enroll as students at the university, and by the end of that school year, DZ's 6 founders had created an organization that would thrive for years to come! As the members faced many challenges on this male-dominated campus, they bonded with one another and created their organization which valued the ideals that they all cherished! Delta Zeta celebrates it's Founders Day on October 24th! What is Delta Zeta's Philanthropy? Delta Zeta is the only global women’s organization that focuses on hearing and speech through its philanthropic efforts. Hearing and speech has been the organization's philanthropy focus since 1954. The organization uses their philanthropy to protect hearing, raise awareness of deaf culture and American Sign Language, and provide the opportunity of speech therapy and hearing aids to people in need of those resources. Delta Zeta supports this cause through partnering with many different organizations across the globe. Starkey Hearing Foundation was named Delta Zeta’s National Philanthropic Partner in 2015. The Starkey Hearing Institute trains healthcare professionals to be Hearing Instrument Specialists, which allows them to fit hearing aids anywhere in the world. In 2015, Delta Zeta also pledged to raise $5 million for speech and hearing to donate to the Starkey Hearing Foundation and in 2020 they successfully completed the pledge. Since the sorority’s partnership with Starkey, they have raised over $5.5 million for the foundation. In 2020, Delta Zeta partnered with the American Society for Deaf Children. Since more than 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents, ASDC has made it their mission to help parents learn American Sign Language so families can communicate with their deaf child. This partnership has given Delta Zeta members the opportunity to learn about American Sign Language, further understand deaf culture, spread awareness, and become informed and effective allies of the deaf community. Delta Zeta’s Global Service Project is the SeriousFun Children’s Network. SeriousFun is a support center that provides resources, funding, training, and assistance to their global family of camps and programs. The Painted Turtle is a camp SeriousFun organizes and runs in Lake Hughes, CA which is a place for children with serious medical conditions. Kids attending the camp have the opportunity to experience camping that they otherwise would not have due to their illness and it is completely free of charge. Members of Delta Zeta have the opportunity to volunteer at SeriousFun camps where they get to help the children they serve and enrich their own lives as well. The organization also promotes awareness for speech and hearing on Heart for Hearing and Speech Day on the first Tuesday in May. This also marks the start of Better Hearing and Speech Month which is a national effort to raise awareness about communications disorders. Each member of Delta Zeta shares their personal commitment to the cause during this time. Delta Zeta has formed a Global Ambassador Society whose purpose is to engage individuals who have supported their national philanthropy and service partners, Starkey Hearing Foundation, American Society for Deaf Children, and the SeriousFun Children’s Network. Global Ambassadors engage with others and talk about different ways they can support our national partner. Delta Zeta Chapters Today, there are 167 active collegiate chapters of DZ in the United States and Canada, with over 285,000 initiated members.There are over 170 alumnae DZ chapters stretching across 49 states, Canada and the United Kingdom Each year, about 7,000 women are initiated into Delta Zeta!     Delta Delta Delta, also known as Tri Delta is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). Tri Delta encourages it's members to always be themselves while part of something larger than themselves! Delta Delta Delta members value serving others. They are also dedicated to helping women live, lead and learn for a lifetime. Delta Delta Delta History While there were already three women's groups at Boston University in 1888, the 2 Tri Delta founders felt a need for a different group that would "be kind alike to all and think more of the girl’s inner self and character than of her personal appearance." from tridelta.org The founders, Sarah Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcas Pond set the framework of this organization and created it's rituals and symbols. They also wrote the constitution and designed the emblems. This was all finished on the night before Thanksgiving 1888, when they declared "Tri Delta is founded." Delta Delta Delta celebrates it's Founder's Day on November 27th! What is Delta Delta Delta's Philanthropy? Tri Delta's national philanthropy is St. Jude's Research Hospital. St. Jude's is a very well-known research facility in the United States, where they do not charge their patients anything for their stay so they can focus on treatment and getting better. Throughout their partnership, Delta Delta Delta has raised over $84 million to support St. Jude's in their efforts to find cures and save children! Many Tri Delta collegiate chapters host philanthropy events throughout the year to support these philanthropic efforts. Some of these events include Delta Dodgeball, D-Hop and Delta Desserts, where all the money raised goes directly to St. Jude's Research Hospital. These efforts do not stop after graduation. Tri Delta alumnae chapters support local and regional children's hospitals and pediatric cancer initiatives across the country. They also partner with St. Jude's Walk/Run and Memphis Marathon by making teams, raising funds and volunteering to support the non-profit. Delta Delta Delta Chapters Tri Delta has initiated over 330,000 women since it's founding in 1888. There are about 139 active collegiate chapters of Tri Delta and over 231 alumnae chapters worldwide! Zeta Tau Alpha History Zeta Tau Alpha was founded on October 15th, 1898 at Virginia State Female Normal School, which is now Longwood University. The 9 founders wanted to form companionship and form close bonds with one another during their collegiate years. With the fear that their friendship may fade without a formal bond to unify it, Zeta Tau Alpha was formed! Zeta Tau Alpha is currently the second largest organization in the NPC. Zeta Tau Alpha celebrates it's Founder's Day on October 15th! What is Zeta Tau Alpha's Philanthropy? Zeta's national philanthropy is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Since 1992, Zetas have distributed millions of pink ribbons across the nation to show support for breast cancer survivors as well as those who lost their lives. ZTA has coined the phrase, "Think Pink®" and has partnerships to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. These partnerships include The American Cancer Society®, The NFL, and Bright Pink®. Collegiate Zeta Tau Alpha chapters host philanthropy events and initiatives throughout the entire month of October to bring awareness and show support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Throughout these events, Zetas are raising awareness about early detection of breast cancer and raising money for their philanthropic partners! Zeta Tau Alpha Chapters ZTA currently has 175 active collegiate chapters. There are also 226 active Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae chapters, making there over 290,000 initiated women in the organization!     Alpha Phi, also known as APhi, is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). The objectives of this fraternity is "the promotion of growth in character; unity of feeling, sisterly affection, and social communion among (their) members." From alphaphi.org Alpha Phi's values include sisterhood, generosity, high expectations of character and a drive to be innovative. These four ideals are what Alpha Phi defines itself and its members as, and they are what is at the heart of this organization. Alpha Phi History Alpha Phi was founded in 1872 at Syracuse University by some of the university's first female students. After being denied access to join men's fraternities, APhi's founders decided to create their own fraternity for women. For this organization, they envisioned an expansive sisterhood, trusting in themselves and each other to make an impact! Alpha Phi celebrates it's Founders Day on October 10th! This year, Alpha Phi celebrates 150 years of their organization! What is Alpha Phi's Philanthropy? Alpha Phi was one of the first women's fraternities to establish their own Foundation. The Alpha Phi Foundation supports women's heart health, scholarships, and Alpha Phi leadership training. A huge announcement regarding the Alpha Phi Foundation was made during APhi's convention this past summer - Alpha Phis have donated over $42 million to their foundation! Many collegiate Alpha Phi chapters host their annual Red Dress Gala, a philanthropy event including a dinner and silent auction. The funds raised at this event goes to studies, finding cures and supporting women's heart health! Alpha Phi Chapters Alpha Phi is proud to say that they serve over 270,000 members of their organization. There are 173 collegiate chapters of Alpha Phi across the United States and Canada! Alpha Tau continues to promote the ethical, social, cultural, and professional development of it's members. Alpha Sigma Tau takes pride in instilling its members with skills needed to navigate through life, while also inspiring them to enhance their own and others's lives. This organization works hard to make sure it's members excel in every way possible! Alpha Sigma Tau History Alpha Sigma Tau was founded on November 4, 1989 at what was Michigan State Normal College, a university for teachers. At the height of sororities just being founded, Alpha Tau's founders wanted to create an organization that helped women engage with one another while allowing them to grow closer as sisters. In it's early years, the founders spent much of their time laying the groundwork for Alpha Sigma Tau to become a national organization - one that still stands and succeeds today! Alpha Sigma Tau celebrates it's Founder's Day on November 4th! What is Alpha Sigma Tau's Philanthropy? Alpha Tau's national philanthropy is Women's Wellness. Alpha Sigma Tau works to help women become the best version of themselves, and they do this through their philanthropic efforts, too! They believe that women who achieve and maintain wellness are more likely to reach their full potential. The Women's Wellness Initiative allows Alpha Tau members to empower women through hands-on service activities, including two of their national service partners, Dress for Success and Girls Who Code. Dress for Success is an international nonprofit that helps women achieve financial independence by providing them with the tools they need to be successful. These tools include, but are not limited to, support, professional wear, and development tools that help women succeed in the workplace and life. Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit who works to close the gender gap in the technology industry. This program provides girls with computing skills, technology, and inspiration to help them pursue the many opportunities the 21st Century has to offer! Alpha Sigma Tau Chapters Alpha Tau currently has 81 collegiate chapters across the United States. In addition to this, they have 39 alumnae groups nationwide.     Alpha Omicron Pi, also known as Alpha O or AOII is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). AOII prides itself on encouraging it's members to love one another. Their members are loyal to each other, themselves, their university and Alpha O as a whole. This organization works to promote character, dignity, scholarship and loyalty! Alpha Omicron Pi History Alpha Omicron Pi was founded at Barnard College in New York City. This college was one of the first in the nation that allowed females to receive the same education as men. The Barnard class of 1898 included four women who wanted to make a lasting legacy for themselves on campus. They made an organization based around their friendship, knowing that it would last a lifetime. On January 2nd 1897, Alpha Omicron Pi was formed! Alpha Omicron Pi celebrates it's Founder's Day on January 2nd! What is Alpha Omicron Pi's Philanthropy? AOII's national philanthropy is the Arthritis Foundation and has been since 1967. Alpha O members host philanthropy events throughout the year to raise money for this foundation. They also raise awareness for arthritis and educate their peers on the disease. They provide their time volunteering at two major Arthritis Foundation events throughout the year, Walk to Cure Arthritis and Jingle Bell Run. Many Alpha O chapters host signature philanthropy events each year, known as "Strike Out Arthritis!" events. These events feature baseball 5Ks, bowling or volleyball tournaments and raise funds for the Foundation. Alpha Omicron Pi Chapters AOII has over 209,000 initiated women throughout it's history. Making up this large number are 136 collegiate chapters and 156 alumnae Alpha Omicron Pi chapters nationwide.     Alpha Chi Omega, also known as Alpha Chi, AXO or AChiO is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). AXO prides itself on being a women's organization dedicated to helping women reach their full potential. They do this through a lifetime of sisterhood, leadership and service. Alpha Chi Omega History Alpha Chi Omega was founded at DePaw University on October 15, 1885. Inspired by their professor, seven female students were inspired and encouraged to form a women's society within the university. Alpha Chi Omega was the 10th women's fraternity in the country, but the first to be in a music school. The founders chose "Alpha" and "Omega" as they are the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. In the middle, they chose "Kai," meaning "and" which later changed to the Greek letter "Chi." Alpha Chi was founded on advancing "the intellectual, social and moral culture" of its members, and they still value that today! Alpha Chi Omega celebrates its Founders Day on October 15th! What is Alpha Chi Omega's Philanthropy? Alpha Chi's philanthropy is the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation. It raises money to promote awareness for domestic violence. Many chapters of Alpha Chi Omega host an annual "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" philanthropy event, where men literally walk a mile in women's high heels. This specific philanthropy event has raised millions of dollars for local rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and more!
